WELCOME TO TOBY HOUSE - A 30-year old Valley nonprofit agency that helps adults with severe mental illness reach their highest potential in their journey toward recovery through client-centered compassionate care. Learn more
There are numerous issues surrounding the world of the mentally ill. Some are well known - stigma, quality services, research, treatment modalities. Others are less well known but no less important as having impact on mental illness. These might include questions about how services are provided, how they are funded and what are some of the hidden barriers to accessing services. It is hoped to discuss these issues and perhaps, while opening up discussion, shedding some light on approaches to solutions.

LDAP presently provides the following functions:
The issue today is Address Books.
As I discussed in the section The Toby House Application Server, the intent is to put mission critical applications (the primary things that Toby House Employees use on a daily basis), into a system that abstracts the user interface so that authenticated users can perform their job functions regardless of the computer that they are using.
This offers a lot of advantages to Toby House:
What started as a project to track client referrals and placement into various facilities became an Application Server. It has grown into a framework that encompasses a large part and perhaps someday, all of the various bits of technology employed at Toby House.
First things first though...let's define our terms here.
The best argument to be made for Toby House using open source software is simply value. Simply stated, it allows us the most bang for the buck...the most features for the least cost, but I'm probably getting a little ahead of my audience here so...
This is the first of a number of blog entries that I am going to make about the role of Technology at Toby House. I am going to make this post 'stick' to the front page for a while until others start putting up their own purposeful blog entries.
I plan to cover the following topics individually and will provide links to the pages when I do create them.
Pretty neat. Just wanted to test this "blog" thing, as I have never done it before. I'm not understanding the purpose of it, exactly, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. It looks as though the only purpose of opening an account is to post a blog. Is that correct? Are other features going to be available to account users?
I'm quite sure that some people are asking that question and it's a reasonable question to ask. I would expect that most people who are not avid Internet users would ask that question.
I have essentially duplicated all of the static content that is on www.tobyhouse.com onto this web site and it is my hope that we shut it down and drive all of that traffic to this web site. The web site that is presently www.tobyhouse.com is static, it has no capacity for change with the exception of instructing someone technically inclined to make the changes and appearance changes require a complete makeover which is time consuming and costly if you get a professional web designer. But it's the static part that is the problem.
We are progressing to a new stage and a new design for our web site. The hope is that it will become not only a source of information but will also accomplish another goal - that of serving to better connect us the surrounding community and the broader community beyond . By more broadly sharing, we hope to engender a greater interest in our work and perhaps a greater willingness to invest in our efforts.
